Hi! I’m Carrie. I’m a country gal living it up with my husband, our little guy T and Josie, our maltipoo. We’re midwestern country folks at heart and have been working towards and planning our homestead since we married in 2001. We lived on a small lot in town for several years. We always had a nice garden, though not very large and I put up tomatoes, pickled beets, corn, etc., but we always longed for more. We found a great piece of property in 2004 and started building our homestead a few years later.
Since our piece of land was completely raw we have had to start from scratch – put in a driveway, hooked into rural water and electric, removed more locust trees than I care to discuss, built our pole barn and home. And so far we’ve been able to establish a large garden, a few berry bushes, the beginnings of a small orchard, a flock of chickens and lots of plans for expansion and greater self-sufficiency. We’re hoping to be able to put up fence soon and add a few goats for weed control and eventually a feeder calf or two and a mini-donkey. I love mini-donkeys!
What you won’t find at LPOHH is a perfect house, a perfect child, a perfect marriage. You also won’t find a woman trying to convince you otherwise. We’re real people with real struggles. We sometimes have bologna sandwiches for dinner and you can likely find dried milk on the kitchen floor at anytime. Our house is not a show home – we live and love in it and it shows. 🙂
What you can count on reading about is self-sufficiency, gardening (successes and failures), canning and preserving, raising chickens, landscaping, healing with essential oils, cooking from scratch, International adoption, anything toddler related, crafts and home decor projects and DIY’ing anything and everything.
We’re always up to something around here and we hope you’ll join us as I write about our little homestead and all the hardwork and fun we run into.
